Solder Wire Products Online from Soldering Wire Suppliers in the UK
Somerset Solders have been supplying solder wire for electronic assembly for 20 years stocking gauges from 0.20mm to 3.25mm.
Choosing the right solder wire.
Solder wire selection is determined by the following:
- Alloy choice
- Flux type
- Gauge
Alloy choice
So do you require lead free solder wire or leaded solder? As a major distributor of Qualitek solders we stock the following main alloys:
Leaded 60% 40% Tin Lead
LF965-30 Lead Free solder alloy Tin Silver Copper Sn96.5% Ag3.0% Cu0.5%
Sn100eLead Free solder alloy Tin Copper Sn99.5% Cu 0.5% Cobalt (Trace)
Flux type
The flux chemistry gives the solder wire its wetting properties and assists with heat transfer. The flux cleans the metal surfaces of the natural oxide layer and prevents further oxidation so that the molten solder alloy can wet the base metal and form a strong metallic bond. The flux is present as a single core within solder wire and is continuous throughout the length of the solder.
Qualitek solder wires are available in a range of flux chemistries designed for different activity levels depending on the types of metals to solder and the extent of oxides present.

Gauge
The thickness of solder wire to use depends on the amount of solder required to form the solder joint and with the correct soldering tip size relative to the component lead diameter. We stock Qualitek solder wires from 0.38mm to 1.60mm.
Speciality solder wires
HMP solder wireFor applications that require a higher melting point
Almit 0.20mm SR37 Ideal for fine pitch surface mount component soldering.
99C solid core solderLead free solder wire in 3.25mm gauge. No flux core. Apply flux to solder area prior to heating. Ideal for plumbing applications.
Important to remember:
Rosin fluxes - Heated Rosin forms resin acid particulates and other components as gases. When inhaled these can lead to occupational asthma, irritate the eyes and upper respiratory tract. It is advisable to install adequate fume extraction to the work area. See our range of BOFA fume extraction systems.
